Why were true breeding pea plants important for Mendel's experiment?

?Why were true breeding pea plants important for Mendel's experiment?
because without true breeding peas he wouldn't have been sure that the ';genes'; that he was choosing to change where what actually were causing the difference in phenotypes. If he was using heterozygous peas then it might have been some 3rd unknown variable causing the wrinkled peas.
